How to care for polished aluminum wheels and what to avoid
To keep your polished aluminum wheels shining and lasting, it's important to know how to properly care for them and what to avoid. By following these tips, you'll protect the surface of your wheels from damage and oxidation.
1. Regular cleaning
- Use only soft materials. Use only a soft microfiber cloth or 100% cotton cloth for cleaning. This will help avoid small scratches that can damage the glossy surface.
- Use a damp cloth to start. Always wipe away dust and dirt with a damp cloth before scrubbing. Dry scrubbing can cause scratches.
- Choose gentle products. It is best to use a mild soap solution, such as dishwashing liquid, that does not contain chlorine or ammonia.
-
How to avoid:
- Do not use rough brushes or sponges. They can permanently scratch the surface of the discs.
- Do not use harsh cleaning agents. Avoid harsh chemicals and wheel cleaners designed for painted wheels – they can cause the surface to oxidize and discolor.
- Do not use CarWash chemicals. The chemicals used in car washes can damage the polished surface, making it dull and causing stains.
- After washing, be sure to dry the wheels. After washing with a high-pressure jet, be sure to wipe the wheels with a soft cloth. Do not let the water dry on its own, as the water from the CarWash can be limescale, which will leave stains.
- Never poke the disc with your fingers. There may be dirt on your fingers and the surface of the disc, which will cause micro scratches when rubbed.
2. Polishing
- The right polishing paste. Use only special, fine-grained polishing pastes designed specifically for aluminum, such as Zephyr Pro40 or Zephyr Pro25 . We recommend and have tested only Zephyr products.
- Light polishing. When polishing, work in light, circular motions without applying too much pressure. This will ensure an even result and protect the surface.
-
How to avoid:
- Do not use other polishing pastes. Pastes not intended for aluminum may contain abrasive particles that will damage the polished surface.
- Do not rub with too much pressure. Too much pressure can cause heat and unevenness in the surface.
- Do not use alkaline products. They may damage the surface of the polished disc.
- Do not use abrasive products of unknown origin. Choose only proven products, such as Zephyr.
3. Protective coating
- Regular coating. After each cleaning and polishing, apply microcrystalline wax or a special aluminum protector. This will reduce the risk of oxidation.
- Recommended products: For additional protection, you can also apply a special spray-on ceramic, such as Zephyr Pro30 .
- Reconditioning: If the discs are frequently exposed to moisture or salt water, the coating should be reconditioned every 1-2 months .
-
How to avoid:
- Don't forget about protection. Leaving discs without a protective coating leaves the surface vulnerable to environmental influences, such as salt and moisture, which promote oxidation.
4. Long-term care
- Preventive polishing. Perform a light preventive polishing with Zephyr Pro25 every few months to maintain shine.
- Prevent damage in time. Regularly check the discs for oxidation spots and remove them in time to prevent them from spreading. For larger damage, use Zephyr Pro40 .
-
How to avoid:
- Don't underestimate long-term care. Without regular care, your discs will lose their shine and become dull.
By following these guidelines, your polished aluminum wheels will maintain their appearance and shine for a long time. If you have any additional questions, feel free to ask!
